John Waynelovich is a young and talented vocalist and jazz pianist from Turners Falls, MA. He has assembled what he calls “the group he always wanted to have” and they have just finished recording a CD entitled "A Year from Now." The CD includes seven original songs and four cover songs that Waynelovich describes as “a mix of an older generation of music to a modern style. John wrote all the original music and worked with co-writers on the lyrics.
Waynelovich began piano in the fourth grade and taught himself how to play jazz. Vocally, he is self- taught as well. He is a graduate of Turners Falls, MA, High School where he participated in the band and chorus. One of his mentors from high school, Steve Ciechomski, the high school band director, is now part of this group on trumpet. On Bass is Mark Dunlap of Holyoke, MA. Dan Scott of Montague, MA, is the drummer for the band and Adam Call of Westfield, MA, State College is on Sax. The CD was recorded at Rainbow Sounds Recording in Bernardston with Scott Sibley as producer. The CD artwork and photography was done by Jen Allen of Greenfield. The title song, "A Year From Now," is about young adults graduating and dreaming of where they will be in a year. The song, "Debut," written with friend Pat McGuire of Ashfield, MA, is about a guy who’s trying to make it big, but when he gets his chance, ends up blowing it. "Miracle Town," also written with Pat McGuire, is a story about Las Vegas and the way the city works. Waynelovich enjoys singing and writing about songs that relate to himself, like "A Year From Now, " but also likes to bring the audience into different places and scenarios such as 'Debut' and 'Miracle Town.' Waynelovich says he “has been most influenced by Jamie Cullum and Peter Cincotti and his style is to mix the older generation jazz with a modern style that is distinctly his.” He equates it to doing research but then rewriting the information to make it your own. John continues his studies at Westfield State College in Westfield, MA, as a sophomore, where he works towards a double major of Jazz Studies and Music Education with a piano concentration. |
